FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason baseball team faces Longwood in a midweek, non-conference game on Wednesday with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. at Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville, Va.

Mason (13-13, 5-1 A-10) won two of three games in its series against Richmond over the weekend.  The Patriots are in a three-way tie for first place in the Atlantic 10 Conference with George Washington and Saint Louis.

The Patriots have won 13 of their last 18 games overall and are 11-3 at Spuhler Field this season.  Mason is off to its best start at home since 2009.

Mason has a team batting average of .267 through 26 games.  Sophomore Logan Driscoll leads the A-10 in average (.431) and hits (44).  He ranks third in RBI (24) and fourth in slugging percentage (.569) in the conference.

Senior Trevor Kelly is batting .298 and leads the Patriots in home runs (3) and is second in hits (31) and RBI (20).

On the mound, junior Zach Mort (3-1) was named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row.  He tossed nine scoreless innings and struck out eight batters without a walk in Mason's 1-0 win over Richmond in game one of the series on Friday. 

Mort leads the A-10 in strikeouts (63) and innings pitched (50.1) and ranks third in ERA (1.61).

Mason leads the all-time series against Longwood 11-6.  Last season, the Patriots scored a run in the eighth and three runs in the ninth inning for a 6-5 win over the Lancers on March 1, 2017 at Buddy Bolding Stadium. 

SCOUTING REPORT

Longwood has an overall record of 7-19, including a mark of 2-7 against Big South Conference opponents.  The Lancers are 5-7 at home and 2-12 on the road this season.

Longwood is batting .217 as a team.  Senior Sammy Miller is hitting .284 and leads the team in hits (27) and is second in RBI (9).  Senior Justin Mitchell is batting .241 and leads the Lancers in doubles (7) and RBI (15).

On the mound, Senior Michael Catlin (2-2) is second on the team in ERA (5.52) and saves (2).

Longwood was in action last night, falling 12-6 to VMI in the first of a five-game homestand.  The Lancers have dropped nine of their last 10 games.

STRIKE ZONE

Senior right-hander Ryan Ricci (3-1) leads Mason in appearances (12) and is second on the squad in ERA (1.93).  He has recorded 13 strikeouts in 18.2 innings of work.
