FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason junior
Zach Mort has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row, the league announced on Monday.
Mort (3-1), a right-hander from Chesterfield, Va., pitched nine scoreless innings and struck out eight batters without a walk in Mason's 1-0 win against Richmond on Friday. He allowed just six singles and threw a first-pitch strike to 29 of the 36 batters he faced in the game.
Mort leads the conference with 63 strikeouts and ranks third with a 1.61 ERA.
For his effort, Mort was also selected College Sports Madness Atlantic 10 Baseball Player of the Week for the second straight week.
The Patriots are back on the diamond on Wednesday when they face Longwood, with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville, Va.
