Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-8 victory over VCU in the regular-season finale on Saturday at George Mason Stadium.

Junior Chachi Kelehan broke two single-game school records - scoring eight goals and recording 11 points - as the Patriots dominated from the start on Senior Day. Mason (11-6, 5-4 A-10) jumped all over the Rams in the first half, including eight straight goals followed by a streak of 10 goals in a row, starting at the end of the first half into the second.

The Patriots clinched the sixth seed in the Atlantic 10 Lacrosse Championship, which begins Thursday at the University of Richmond. Mason will play No. 3 seed Saint Joseph's at 2:30 p.m. in a first-round matchup at Robins Stadium.

Kelehan scored seven of her eight goals in the first half and needed just nine shots to do so. The attacker from Ellicott City, Md., surpassed the previous single-game record of seven goals, which had occurred seven times before. Jill Toomey last scored seven on April 30, 2003 against American. Kelehan also dished out three assists to break the single-game record for points with 11. The previous record of nine had been set four times, the last coming on April 24, 2016 by Jacquelyn Spalding. Kelehan broke that record in the first half, with 10 points before halftime.

The junior also broke the record for most points in a season with 73, surpassing Jill Toomey, who recorded 72 points in both 2002 and 2003.

Senior Hannah Warpinski had a game-high nine draw control wins and Mason finished with a 24-8 advantage. The Patriots peppered shots at the VCU goalies all day, outshooting the Rams 31-16 (23-6 in the first half).

Sophomore Hailey Johnson registered four goals and one assist, freshman Erin Donoghue pitched in three goals and graduate student Corinne Wessels notched two goals and four assists.

The Rams (7-10, 5-4) were led on offense by redshirt junior Sky Hyatt, who recorded her two goals in the first five minutes of the game. Sophomore Keriann McTavish also pitched in with one goal and one assist.
