PHILADEPHIA – The George Mason women's lacrosse team dug themselves a deficit that was too big to overcome on Sunday against the Saint Joseph's Hawks.
The Patriots dropped a 16-9 loss to the Hawks at Sweeney Field. SJU has now won five in a row and have won six of their past seven.
Saint Joseph's (10-6, 6-2 A-10) started the game determined and scored the game's first three goals. The Patriots (10-6, 4-4) responded with three straight of their own to tie the game. Senior
Lindsey Tangeman snapped a four game goal less drought and scored the first goal for Mason. The Hawks responded with four straight to end the first half up 7-3.
Freshman
Erin Donoghue scored the first goal coming out of the halftime break, but the Hawks came right back and increased the lead back to four and the Patriots could never get enough stops on defense to make a comeback.
The Hawks were vacuums on ground balls today, dominating the Patriots 20-10. George Mason continued to struggle with turnovers, committing 20 on the day. Senior
Hannah Warpinski and the rest of the Patriots were dominant on the draw controls, winning the battle 19-7.

Holly Tevis had a team-high two assists and finished with one goal.
The Patriots are back in action 1 p.m. on Saturday for Senior day against VCU at George Mason Stadium.
