FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University women's tennis team began its end-of-season push with a contest against cross-Potomac foe Georgetown on Thursday at the Mason Tennis Courts.
The Patriots put together some solid individual performances, but the Hoyas were able to take the match by the score of 7-0.
The Hoyas won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to clinch the first point, although Mason's No. 1 tandem of senior
Sydney Green and freshman
Brianna Gibbs was leading in the top match when it was called. The duo of Green and Gibbs held a 4-2 advantage over Nakagawa and Marx of Georgetown.
In singles, Green played a pair of competitive sets at No. 1, but ultimately dropped the contest to Nakagawa (7-5, 6-4).
Mason's core of freshmen also battled in their matches. At No. 4,
Christine McCarthy fell in two sets, but each were close (7-5, 6-4). Elsewhere at No. 5,
Kayleigh Hahn nearly forced a third set, going to a tiebreaker in the second, but dropping the extra point session, 7-4.
The Patriots will play their penultimate match of the regular season and final home contest Saturday when Mason hosts A-10 foe Saint Joseph's at the Mason Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
