FAIRFAX, Va. – Freshman
Brianna Gibbs put together a complete performance at No. 2 singles to lead the George Mason University women's tennis team in the Patriots' match vs. Davidson on Sunday morning.
Gibbs put together her best dual singles performance of the 2018 campaign on Sunday. The Holmdel, N.J., product faced Megan Schlovinck of Davidson and the two players competed in a close first set. However, Gibbs came out on top, winning the opening frame, 7-5. In the second set, Gibbs commandeered an impressive 6-4 victory to take the match.
Davidson ultimately won the overall match, 6-1, and improved to 5-1 in the A-10 this season.
On Sunday, Gibbs also joined forces with doubles partner
Sydney Green, and that duo played well at No. 1. Facing the Wildcat tandem of Armas and Hahn, the Mason pair dominated the early portion of the match. Gibbs and Green led 4-1, but the match went unfinished as the doubles point already had been clinched by the Wildcats.
Green played another competitive match at No. 1, but ultimately fell in that contest, 6-4, 6-3.
The Patriots had originally planned for Sunday to be a doubleheader. Mason was going to host Maryland Eastern Shore at 4 p.m., but weather became too big of a factor. The Green & Gold will now host UMES on Monday (April 16) at 4 p.m. at the Mason Tennis Courts.
