FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University women's tennis team fell in Friday's Revolutionary Rivalry matchup against George Washington at the Mason Tennis Courts.
The match marked the first of three for the Patriots this weekend in Fairfax. The Green & Gold also will face A-10 foe Davidson on Sunday (10 a.m.), then battle Maryland Eastern Shore in a 4 p.m. contest.
On Friday against the Colonials, GW opened with a strong performance in doubles action to take the first point.
In singles, freshman
Brianna Gibbs played an incredibly competitive first set at No. 2. She fought her way into a tiebreak, where GW's Bayraktaroglu won a close battle. Gibbs then fell in the second set of the match.
Freshman
Hannah Yang also challenged her opponent at No. 3 singles, but dropped the match, 6-3, 6-4.
Sophomore
Liz Lowe also played an exhibition match against GW's Kussainova and fared well. She won the first set, 6-2. Then, after dropping the second, 2-6, Lowe came roaring back to win the third pro set, 10-3.
