BETHESDA, Md. – The George Mason baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Georgetown, falling 6-2 in game one and 10-7 in game two at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md.
In game one, Mason (14-20, 6-3 A-10) starter
Bryce Nightengale retired the first nine batters he faced in the game, while Georgetown (13-20, 2-1 BIG EAST) starter Brent Killam allowed just two singles over the first five innings.
The Hoyas used two singles and took advantage of an error in the bottom of the fifth to take a 1-0 lead.
The Patriots loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth.

Trevor Kelly was intentionally walked. Junior
Ryan Tassone then hit a fly ball to center field where sophomore Ryan M. Davis made a diving catch to end the inning.
Georgetown sent eight batters to the plate in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four runs on four singles and a walk to increase the lead to 5-0.
In the top of the seventh, senior
Garett Driscoll led off with a walk and junior
Tim Quinn followed with a double to put runners on second and third. Junior
Alejandro Aponte drove in Driscoll with a single to center and senior
Michael Smith grounded into a double play, with Quinn scoring to cut the Hoyas advantage to 5-2.
Georgetown senior Jake Bernstein hit a solo home run in the home half of the seventh to make the score 6-2.
Nightengale (3-3) allowed five runs, four earned on seven hits over 5.2 innings and took the loss. He struck out four and walked one.
Garett Driscoll allowed one run on two hits in 1.1 innings, senior
Saul Aguilera faced three batters and freshman
Michael Yuille retired the two batters he faced in the eighth.
Killam (4-1) surrendered two runs on five hits over 6.0 innings to earn the win. Senior Jimmy Swad tossed three scoreless innings to pick up his fifth save of the season for the Hoyas.
Aponte went 1-for-4 and drove in a run, Quinn was 1-for-4 with a run scored and
Garett Driscoll finished 1-for-3 and scored a run.
In game two, Mason started fast and built a lead in the early innings against Georgetown Starter Owen Lamon.
After Lamon retired the first two batters in the first inning,
Logan Driscoll doubled and Kelly belted a two-run homer over the left field fence to put the Patriots in front 2-0. Kelly leads the team with four home runs on the season.
The first five Mason batters of the second inning recorded a hit. Quinn doubled to right and scored when freshman
Daniel Brooks doubled down the right field line to make it a 3-0 game.
Aponte then singled up the middle, with Brooks crossing the plate to increase the lead to 4-0. After a pitching change, Smith singled to put runners on the corners and Mason graduate student
Frank Sturek made it 5-0 with a RBI single.
Georgetown sent eight batters to the plate in the fifth, scoring five runs on three hits against Mason starter
Brian Marconi. With one run across the plate and the bases loaded, Hoyas senior Alex Bernauer provided the big hit in the inning with a grand slam over the right field fence to tie the game 5-5.
In the sixth, Georgetown used back-to-back singles and a walk to load the bases with no outs against sophomore
Jared DiCesare. Senior Austin Shirley then drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to give the Hoyas a 6-5 lead.
The Patriots tied the game in the eighth.
Brooks drew a one-out walk and Aponte followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Smith then drove in Brooks with a sacrifice fly to make it a 6-6 game.
Georgetown plated four runs in the top of the ninth to retake the lead at 10-6.
The Patriots rallied in the bottom of the ninth. Nelin led off with a single and Kelly doubled with one out to put runners on first and third. Tassone then singled to right field, with Nelin scoring to cut the lead to 10-7. With the tying run at the plate, Swad recorded a strikeout and a fly out to end the game.
Marconi allowed five runs on five hits over 5.0 innings in a no-decision. DiCesare (2-5) gave up three runs on four hits over 3.1 innings and took the loss. Senior
Ryan Ricci surrendered two runs on two hits in the ninth.
Lamon allowed five runs on six hits in 1.0 inning and didn't figure in the decision. Senior Kevin Superko (1-3) pitched the eighth inning and earned his first win of the season.
Kelly went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, Brooks finished 3-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored and
Logan Driscoll was 3-for-5 with a run scored.
Every player in the starting lineup for the Patriots had at least one hit in the game.
The Patriots are back on the diamond when the face James Madison on Wednesday, with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Harrisonburg, Va.
