BETHESDA, Md. – The George Mason baseball team dropped the first game of their series against Georgetown, falling 7-3 to the Hoyas on Friday at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md.
Mason (14-18, 6-3 A-10) took the lead in the second inning against Georgetown starter Jack Cushing.

Tim Quinn reached on an error and classmate
Ryan Tassone followed with a double to put runners on second and third. Freshman
Daniel Brooks then grounded to second, with Quinn racing home to put the Patriots in front 1-0.
The Patriots have scored the first run in four of their last five games.
Georgetown (11-20, 2-1 BIG EAST) evened the score in the bottom of the second against Mason starter
Zach Mort. With runners on first and second, Hoyas senior Jake Bernstein drove in a run with a two-out RBI single to make the score 1-1.
Georgetown sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth inning and scored four runs on four hits to take a 5-1 lead. Freshman James Gabor and Bernstein hit back-to-back solo home runs to start the inning for the Hoyas.
The Hoyas added two unearned runs in the home half of the sixth to extend the lead to 7-1.
The Patriots got two runs back in the top of the seventh.

Frank Sturek singled and with one out, sophomore
Logan Driscoll tripled to right field with Sturek scoring from first. Senior
Trevor Kelly then drove in Driscoll from third with a sacrifice fly to make it a 7-3 game.
Mort (3-2) allowed five runs on 11 hits over 4.1 innings and took the loss. Senior
Timothy Turner allowed two unearned runs over 1.2 innings and junior
Jonathan Ostroff tossed two scoreless innings for the Patriots.
Cushing (2-4) allowed three runs on seven hits over 7.0 innings to earn the win. Sophomore Nick Morreale pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to close out the game for the Hoyas.
Driscoll went 2-for-4 with a single and a triple, RBI and a run scored. Sturek went 2-for-4 with two singles and scored a run. Tassone finished 2-for-4 with a single and a double.
The Patriots and Hoyas wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, with the first pitch for game one scheduled for 1 p.m. at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md.
