FAIRFAX, Va. - A four-goal run late in the the first half by Massachusetts set the tone of the game as George Mason couldn't find a way to come back and stage any heroics.
The Patriots suffered a 15-8 loss to UMass on Friday night at George Mason Stadium. The Minutewomen extended their NCAA-record conference-winning streak to 59 games. They haven't lost an Atlantic 10 game since 2010.
UMass (10-3, 5-0 A-10) started the game on a 5-2 run. The Patriots (9-4, 2-2) couldn't recover, struggling to get in a rhythm offensively. They recorded just 15 shots on goal and committed 26 turnovers. Moving in transition seemed to be an issue as well as they failed to clear six of 26 attempts.
Redshirt junior Kiley Anderson led the Minutewomen with a game-high seven goals and dominated the draw control using every inch of her 6-foot-3 frame. Sophomore Stephanie Croke quarterbacked the UMass offense, leading the way with four assists.
Graduate student
Corinne Wessels had a team-high four goals to lead the way for Mason. Junior
Chachi Kelehan pitched in three goals, while senior
Hannah Warpinski registered one goal. Senior captain
Holly Tevis also dished out an assist.
The Patriots look to bounce back on the road at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Richmond.
