EDINBORO, Pa. – The George Mason wrestling team concluded the season with a seventh place finish at the Eastern Wrestling League Championships on Saturday at McComb Fieldhouse in Edinboro, Pa.

Mason redshirt senior Ibrahim Bunduka placed second at 125 pounds and redshirt junior Tejon Anthony finished fourth at 141 pounds to qualify for the Division I NCAA Championships March 15-17 in Cleveland, Ohio.

"Ibrahim got us going right off the bat," Mason head coach Frank Beasley said.  "He looked great all tournament and really earned his trip back.  It was a great day for him and I'm excited for him to compete in his second national tournament."

Bunduka (23-12) recorded an 8-4 decision over Lock Haven's Luke Werner and picked up a 14-8 decision against Bloomsburg's Willie Girard.  Bunduka then downed Werner for a second time with a 3-1 decision and posted an 8-4 decision over Rider's J.R. Wert to earn a true second place finish.

Anthony (21-12) notched a 13-3 major decision over Bloomsburg's Shawn Orem and defeated Tyson Dippery of Rider in sudden victory.

"Tejon took true fourth and qualified for his first national tournament, which is a big step for him" Beasley said.  "He beat a nationally ranked wrestler from Rider in a very important match.  He got better every match as the day went on and I thought his effort was outstanding."

Redshirt junior Matthew Voss placed third in the EWL Championships at 285 pounds.

Voss (23-11) began the day with a 3-2 decision over Rider's Mauro Correnti and then registered a 5-3 decision over Cleveland State's Collin Kelly.  In the third place match, Voss recorded his second victory of the day against Correnti with a 3-2 win in the second sudden victory.

Mason will learn later in the week if Voss qualifies for the NCAA tournament.

"There's a pretty detailed process that they go through," Beasley added.  "We'll find out this week if he qualifies.  He was at the level of earning a spot for the conference to qualify and just missed it.  He's in the coaches rankings and RPI and was one spot from the automatic qualification, which are all factors that determine the at-large selection."

Lock Haven won the EWL championship with 81.5 team points, followed by Rider (72.5), Edinboro (72), Clarion (57), Bloomsburg (28), Cleveland State (25.5) and Mason (15).

"Today was a very good day for Mason wrestling," said Beasley.  "Top to bottom it was the best that we have wrestled all year.  From an attitude, effort, energy and technical standpoint, I felt the team competed well."

The NCAA Championships will be held March 15-17 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
