FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason junior
Zach Mort has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Mort, a right-hander from Chesterfield, Va., pitched the first complete game of his career in Mason's 4-0 win over St. Bonaventure in the A-10 opener on Saturday at Spuhler Field. He struck out a career-high 13 batters without a walk and allowed just five singles in the game.
Mort, who leads the conference with 55 strikeouts and ranks fifth with a 1.96 ERA, improved to 3-1 on the season.
For his effort, Mort was also selected College Sports Madness Atlantic 10 Baseball Player of the Week.
The Patriots are back on the diamond on Tuesday when they face N.C. State, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at Doak Field in Raleigh, N.C.
