FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason baseball team swept a doubleheader against St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon at Spuhler Field. The Patriots rallied for a 7-6 walk-off win in game one and blanked the Bonnies 6-0 in the nightcap.
In game one, Mason (10-11) took the lead in the first inning against St. Bonaventure (4-12) starter Braydon Nelson.

Frank Sturek and freshman
Daniel Brooks both walked to put runners on first and second. After the runners advanced on a ground out, senior
Trevor Kelly drove in Sturek with a sacrifice fly to put the Patriots in front 1-0. Junior
Greg Popatak II followed with a RBI-single, with Brooks racing home to put the Patriots in front 2-0.
In the third, Sturek led off the inning with a double and with two outs, Popatak singled to left field with Sturek scoring to increase the lead to 3-0.
After the Bonnies scored a run in the top of the fourth against Mason starter
Bryce Nightengale to cut the Mason lead to 3-1, the Patriots responded with a single run in the bottom of the fifth.
Brooks drew a one-out walk, and with two outs, Kelly doubled to the wall in center field with Brooks scoring to make it a 4-1 game.
In the seventh, Bonnies junior Jake Foden drove in a run with a groundout and classmate Sam Fuller knocked in another with an infield single to cut the Mason lead to 4-3. The Patriots made the call to the bullpen for senior
Garett Driscoll, who would record the final out of the inning.
The Bonnies started the ninth with two straight singles and after another call to the bullpen, senior
Ryan Ricci gave up another single to load the bases with no outs. After a strikeout, junior Brandon Henshaw singled to right to plate two runs and freshman Tyler Kelder knocked in a run with a groundout to put the Bonnies in front 6-4.
Mason stormed back in the home half of the ninth.
Pinch-hitter
Brady Acker started the rally with a leadoff single and senior
Michael Smith followed with a walk. After a wild pitch moved the runners, junior
Alejandro Aponte drove in a run with a single to make it a one-run game at 6-5.
Sturek plated the tying run with a single back up the middle, with Smith crossing the plate to make the score 6-6.
Logan Driscoll then drove in the game-winning run with a single to right field, with Aponte rumbling around from second base and beating the throw home with a head-first slide to give the Patriots a 7-6 walk-off win.
Nightengale allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out five over 6.2 innings in the no decision.
Garett Driscoll surrendered two runs on three hits in 1.1 innings, while Ricci (2-1) allowed one run on two hits in one inning of work to pick up the win.
Popatak went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Sturek was 2-for-4 with a RBI and scored two runs and Kelly finished 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and two RBI.
In game two, the Patriots jumped out to a 2-0 lead when
Logan Driscoll hit a two-run home run over the right field fence off of St. Bonaventure starter Ben Contento.
In the third, Kelly tripled and scored when Smith doubled with two outs to make the score 3-0.
Mason added three more runs in the fifth inning. Kelly drove in a run with a single and
Garett Driscoll plated two more runs with a single to make the score 6-0.

Brian Marconi (2-0) allowed just three singles and struck out a season-high seven batters over 8.0 innings to earn the win.
With the three-game sweep against St. Bonaventure, the Patriots have won 10 of their last 11 games and improved to 8-2 at home this season.
Brooks went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Kelly was 2-for-4 with a RBI and scored two runs.
Logan Driscoll went 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. He extended his hitting streak to eight games.
The Patriots are back on the diamond when the face N.C. State on Tuesday with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park in Raleigh, N.C.
