NORFOLK, Va. – As the non-conference slate came to an end for the George Mason women's lacrosse team, the balanced scoring continued.
And, this time, a freshman stepped up.
Midfielder
Erin Donoghue scored a career-high six goals to lead the Patriots in a 16-5 victory over Old Dominion on the road Saturday. Senior captain
Hannah Warpinski and graduate student
Corinne Wessels each scored three goals. Wessels also dished out four assists.
Mason (6-2) never trailed and jumped out to a 9-2 lead. Donoghue, a freshman from Mount Laurel, N.J., scored four goals in the second half, including the first three after halftime. Back-to-back goals by sophomore
Hailey Johnson gave the Patriots their largest lead, 16-3, with more than 15 minutes left.
Junior
Chachi Kelehan had two goals and three assists and Johnson scored two goals while dishing out two assists. Warpinski, who scored six goals last Sunday at Stetson, also recorded an assist.
Freshman
Olivia O'Brien won a career-high seven draw controls while Donoghue and Warpinski had five apiece. Donoghue also collected four ground balls.
Sophomore
Melissa Semkiw made seven saves while allowing just three goals in 49 minutes. Senior
Mackenzie Duffy played the last 10-plus minutes and made one save.
Mason now begins Atlantic 10 Conference play against George Washington at 2 p.m. on Thursday in Washington, D.C.
