CLEVELAND – George Mason redshirt juniors
Tejon Anthony and Matt Voss 2018 NCAA Championships came to an end on Friday at Quicken Loans Arena.
Anthony suffered the loss when he lost by decision over Nicholas Gill from Navy (3-2). It was another nail biter for Anthony who earned two takeaway points but couldn't get a hold of Gil the entire match. Gil recorded a takedown in the first period and a takeaway point to seal the victory.
"I thought he competed very well," Mason head coach
Frank Beasley said. "He made one mistake. He had a great effort. There is a lot he can learn from the match. Overall a great experience for him, hopefully it will lead him to a great senior season."
Anthony finished his junior season with 19 wins and tied for the team with technical falls.
The second bout for Mason came between Voss and junior Jere Heino from Campbell University. Heino recorded two takedowns in the first period and kept on rolling the rest of the match. Heino defeated Voss by decision 8-3.
"Matt has been a model of consistency in every match," Beasley said. "He has been consistent in practice. He brought great effort to the match today. He just needs to improve on his defense."
Voss finished the 2017-18 season with a team-best 21 wins for the Patriots.
