HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The George Mason University men's tennis team opened the 2018 PTR Springfest with a 7-0 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday morning at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center.

Tuesday's match marked the first of four for the Green & Gold at the spring break collegiate tennis summit.

"The guys came out playing well today," head coach Jimmy Davis said. "We executed our game on big points and I thought we did a good job taking care of the controllables.  We're still working on refining the doubles and making improvements every day, but the guys have been working extremely hard in practice so we can get to the level we know we are capable of reaching. Tomorrow will be a good test of or mental toughness with two back-to-back matches."

Opening with doubles action, the tandem of senior Giuliano Buzoianu and sophomore Edward Ayers won 8-2 to claim the first victory for the Green & Gold. The pair of freshmen Carter Bradford and Ryan Charles then took the No. 3 doubles match, 9-7. It marked their first dual doubles contest together this season.

At No. 1 doubles, senior Pally Ray and sophomore Jakob Nielsen took an 8-6 decision to give Mason the 3-0 sweep of the doubles point.

In singles action, Bradford continued his hot start to the dual season, winning easily (6-0, 6-1) at No. 4. He's 8-2 in singles action during the spring slate.

At No. 2, Nielsen also made quick work of his Ohio Wesleyan opponent, claiming a 6-3, 6-0 decision. The victory snapped a six-match skid for the Mississauga, Ontario, product.
