LEXINGTON, S.C. – The George Mason baseball team fell 3-0 to Butler in a rain-shortened seven inning game on Sunday at Lexington County Baseball Stadium in Lexington, S.C.
Mason (0-7) starter Brain Marconi turned in a solid performance. He scattered five singles over five innings in his second start of the season before handing the game over to the bullpen.
Butler (8-0) sent seven batters to the plate and scored the only runs of the game against Mason senior
Timothy Turner in the top of the sixth.
James Gargano reached on an error to start the inning and Harrison Freed doubled down the left field line to put runners on second and third. Garrett Christman then hit a three-run home run over the right field fence to put the Bulldogs in front 3-0.
Rain began to fall before the start of the eighth inning and after a brief delay, the game was called.
Marconi allowed five singles and struck out two over 5.0 innings in the no decision. Turner (0-3) surrendered three runs, two earned, on three hits and suffered the loss. Mason senior
Saul Aguilera tossed a scoreless seventh inning.
Butler starter Sam Hubbe (1-0) pitched a complete-game two-hitter to earn his first win of the season.
Sophomore
Logan Driscoll went 1-for-2 with a single and a walk to increase his hitting streak to seven games. Senior
Tyler Nelin was 1-for-2 with a single and was hit by a pitch. The Patriots had just four baserunners in the game.
The Patriots are back on the diamond for their first home series of the season, hosting Fairfield for a three-game set beginning Friday, Mar. 2 at Spuhler Field. The first pitch for game one of the series is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
