FAIRFAX, Va. – The rain couldn't slow down the George Mason women's lacrosse team and keep it from its best start in 16 years.
The Patriots rolled past Longwood for a 21-6 victory in the home opener on Saturday at George Mason Stadium. Mason improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2002 as it scored more than 20 goals against Longwood (1-3) for the second straight year.
Freshman
Erin Donoghue scored a career-high four goals, junior
Chachi Kelehan added three goals and two assists and sophomore
Hailey Johnson had three goals. Senior
Lindsey Tangeman dished out a career-high five assists to go along with two goals.
The Patriots led from start to finish and led 14-3 at halftime. They pushed the lead to 17 goals midway through the second half and outshot the Lancers 43-11.
Twenty-four Mason players logged minutes and 10 players scored. Graduate student

Hannah Warpinski also scored twice. Warpinski also had two assists and eight draw controls and Wessels dished out an assist. Sophomore

Melissa Semkiw made two saves and collected four ground balls. Senior
Mackenzie Duffy came off the bench and played the last eight minutes.
The Patriots hit the road to play No. 25 Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Blacksburg, Va.
