MONTCLAIR, Va. – The George Mason University men's tennis team fell to in-state foe James Madison on Friday afternoon at Montclair Country Club.
The Patriots fell to the Dukes by the score of 7-0.
"We had some very close matches today against a tough team but couldn't pull them out," head coach Jimmy Davis said. "The guys are competing well week in and week out, and I'm very confident the results will start showing soon. We have more areas to work on in practice this week so we can be ready for two more tough matches next weekend."
Mason's best chance in doubles came at No. 2, where sophomore
Jakob Nielsen and senior
Pally Ray dropped a 7-5 decision to JMU's team of Arce and Kohler.
In singles, sophomore
Edward Ayers went three sets at No. 2, capturing the second set 6-4 to even up his match with Arce. But Ayers dropped the third set, 6-1.
Freshman
Carter Bradford also went three sets at No. 4, winning the second frame by the score of 6-4.
Senior
Giuliano Buzoianu won his second set 6-0 in blitzing fashion, but fell in a 10-8 pro set in the third frame.
Mason returns to the court Friday with a 1 p.m. contest at Liberty.
