FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason wrestling team continues its three-match homestand, hosting American on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Fairfax, Va.
Mason (3-12, 0-6 EWL) fell to Franklin & Marshall 22-17 on Sunday. Each team won five bouts in the match.
Redshirt senior
Ibrahim Bunduka (125) and redshirt junior
Tejon Anthony (149) each won by major decision. Redshirt sophomore
Garrett Griffith (165), redshirt junior
Austin Harrison (184) and redshirt junior
Matthew Voss (285) picked up a decision against the Diplomats.
Griffith notched his first win as a Patriot with a 4-2 decision. Voss leads Mason with 19 wins on the season.
Last season, the Patriots dropped a 27-9 decision to American at Bender Arena in Washington, D.C. The Eagles won the first three bouts and seven of 10 in the match. American picked up a technical fall at 125 pounds, major decision at 133 pounds, a fall at 184 pounds along with four wins by decision.
Voss closed out the match on a positive note when he earned a 5-2 decision over American junior Brett Dempsey at 285 pounds.
The Patriots are back in action for the final dual of the season on Senior Day on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. when they host VMI at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Fairfax, Va.

SCOUTING AMERICAN
American has a 6-6 overall dual record, including 3-3 against Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) opponents. The Eagles are 1-4 at home, 4-2 on the road and 1-0 in duals held at a neutral site this season.
Last time out, American fell 25-16 to Drexel on Sunday, Feb. 11 at Bender Arena in Washington, D.C. The Eagles won the first two bouts of the day, but Drexel won six of the final eight matches in the victory.
The Eagles have four wrestlers in the latest national rankings by
Trackwrestling. Junior Josh Terao (25-5) is No. 10 at 133 pounds while classmate Michael Sprague (19-10) is No. 20 at 149 pounds. Senior Jeric Kasunic (28-3) is No. 10 at 197 pounds and senior Brett Dempsey (13-8) is No. 22 at 285 pounds.
Terao, a 2017 NCAA qualifier, has won 12 of his last 14 matches. Kasunic leads the team with 28 wins and has won 18 straight matches.
American has four road dual wins this season, including an 18-13 victory over No. 21 North Carolina at the UNC Duals on Jan. 5.
