FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason wrestling team completed a strong outing in the Patriot Open, with three wrestlers placing first and three wrestlers placing second on Sunday at the George Mason Field House.

Redshirt senior Tejon Anthony (149), redshirt sophomore Eli Spencer (197) and redshirt freshman Cornelius Schuster each won championships.

Redshirt senior Matthew Voss (285), redshirt junior Colston DiBlasi (165) and freshman Kolby Ho (157) earned each placed second.

"We really appreciate the support from everyone in facilities, the people who run the tournaments and all the volunteers," Mason head coach Frank Beasley said.  "It was a great home event and we wrestled really well.  Putting six wrestlers in the finals is a good accomplishment in any college tournament and to have three champions and three runners-up is a very good day.  We responded to a disappointing dual meet yesterday.  I challenged the guys to come back and make the adjustments and I felt like we did a better job of that."

Anthony won all five of his matches on the day to claim the title at 149 pounds.

In the round of the 32, Anthony began the tournament with a pin (2:48) against Sam Lynch (Brown).  After a win over Lucas Ortiz (Lock Haven - unattached) in the round of 16, Anthony then recorded three takedowns and four near-fall points in a 13-4 major decision over Will Kaldes (Pittsburgh) in the quarterfinals.

Anthony notched a 2-1 decision in sudden victory in the semifinals against Luas Kemerer (Pittsburgh - unattached) and posted three takedowns in the first place match on the way to an 8-4 decision over Brock Port (Lock Haven - unattached).

Spencer began the day with a 13-3 major decision over David Heath (Brown) in the round of 16.  He recorded three takedowns and four near-fall points in the match.

Spencer earned a 6-0 decision over Gregory Bensley (Penn) in the quarterfinals and then registered a pin (1:33) against Parker McClellan (Lock Haven) in the semifinals.

In the first place bout, Spencer picked up a 2-1 decision over Sam Schuyler (Buffalo) to win the tournament at 197 pounds.

"Eli had a disappointing loss yesterday and he came back today and won," said Beasley.  "In the finals of the tournament, he avenged a loss from yesterday which is really hard to do and he looked great doing it.  I'm really excited about the progress that he has made."

Schuster won three matches to claim the title at 174 pounds.  He picked up a 5-2 decision over Brinton Simington (Lock Haven) in the quarterfinals and he won by fall (1:52) over Colin Shannon (American) in the semifinals.

In the first place bout, Schuster won by 4-2 decision over James Wujek (West Virginia).

"Schuster really had a breakout performance today," Beasley said.  "He moved up a weight class and went out and won the tournament.  He's comtinuing to improve, it's not easy to move up in weight.  He's a great teammate who has worked really hard and is finding his opportunities."

At 285 pounds, Voss began with a 10-4 decision over Cole Rickert (Pittsburgh) in the round of 16 and then won by fall (2:40) over Trent Ragland (Virginia Tech) in the quarterfinals.

Voss won by 4-3 decision over Isaac Reid (Lock Haven) in the semifinals before falling in the first place bout by 3-2 decision.

DiBlasi won four matches, three by fall, at 165 pounds to place second.  He recorded a pin (3:47) in the round of 32 against Tom Fitzgerald (American), won by fall (4:47) in the round of 16 against Jordan Florence (Virginia Tech) and also won by fall (1:50) in the quarterfinals over Jack Conway (Penn).

In the semifinals, DiBlasi recorded two takedowns and eight near-fall points in an 11-3 major decision over Anthony Wokasch (American).

In the first place bout, DiBlasi held a 1-0 lead over Caleb Clymer (Lock Haven) in the third period before Clymer scored a takedown with two seconds remaining in the match.

At 157 pounds, Ho posted three victories to place second.  He won by fall (2:54) over Riley Barth (Pittsburgh) in the round of 16 and earned an 8-6 decision over Hunter Jones (West Virginia - unattached).

Ho recorded nine takedowns in an impressive 21-6 technical fall over Jack Bokina (Brown) in the semifinals before falling by 9-5 decision in the championship match.

The Patriots are back in action with a pair of road duals on Thursday, Dec. 20, facing Gardner-Webb at 12 p.m. in Boiling Springs, N.C. and Davidson at 7 p.m. in Davidson, N.C.
