FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason wrestling team is on the road for a pair of duals on Thursday, Dec. 20, facing Gardner-Webb at 12 p.m. in Boiling Springs, N.C. followed by a matchup against Davidson at 7 p.m. in Davidson, N.C.
Last time out, Mason (2-2, 1-1 EWL) fell to Buffalo 26-7 in the home opener on Dec. 8 at the George Mason Field House.
This is the second straight year that the Patriots have competed in two duals in different cities on the same day.
"Wrestling in the morning and having a break in the evening helps us simulate what the national tournament is like," Mason head coach
Frank Beasley said. "Our guys will wrestle in two sessions at the NCAA Tournament and being able to draw from this experience will help them in the future."
The Patriots have won two duals on the road this season, defeating VMI 20-17 (Nov. 2) and Bloomsburg 24-11 (Nov. 29).
Mason redshirt senior
Matthew Voss (14-2, 3-1) is ranked No.12 by Win Magazine, No. 16 by InterMat and No. 17 by Trackwrestling.
Last season, Mason defeated Davidson 29-9 at the Recreation Athletic Complex. The Patriots won seven of 10 bouts and earned bonus points in five matches against the Wildcats.
Mason will face Gardner-Webb for the first time since Jan. 5, 2014, when the Runnin' Bulldogs defeated the Patriots 23-16 in Fairfax.
