ANNAPOLIS, Md. – George Mason redshirt senior
Tejon Anthony placed second at 149 pounds, while redshirt junior
Colston DiBlasi placed second at 165 pounds on Saturday at the 41st annual Navy Classic held at the Wesley Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md.
Anthony began the day with a fall (6:34) over Tristan Sellmer (Indiana) in the round of 32. He then recorded three takedowns on the way to a 9-4 decision over Kade Kowalski (Ohio) in the round of 16.
In the quarterfinals, Anthony wasted little time against Zachary Krause (Brown), winning by fall in the first period (1:47).
Anthony trailed 3-2 in his semifinal bout before recording two takedowns and an escape point for an 8-4 decision over Jaden Enriquez (Michigan State). In a defensive championship match, Anthony fell by 3-1 decision to Joshua Heil (Campbell).
"Tejon wrestled well," Mason head coach
Frank Beasley said. "He did a nice job creating angles to get to his attacks and looked great from the bottom position. In addition, he picked up a pair of pins. Overall, he wrestled well in all three positions. There was one takedown late in the second period that was the difference in his finals match."
DiBlasi muscled his way to the championship match at 165 pounds, recording four straight falls.
DiBlasi defeated Aaron Olmos (Oregon State) in the round of 16, Isaac Bast (Kent State) in the quarterfinals and Bryce Martin (Indiana) in the semifinals. In the championship match where points were tough to come by, DiBlasi dropped a 4-0 decision to Jonathan Viruet (Brown).
"Colston is making improvements week to week," Beasley said. "We have seen noticeable progress from him each week. He avenged a loss from two weeks ago in the semifinals with a pin over a top twenty ranked wrestler. He is doing a good job listening to the feedback from the staff and making adjustments. He had four pins today which is impressive."
