FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason swimming and diving teams completed the first day of competition at the Patriot Invitational, with the men's team in second place and the women's team in fourth place after day one of the three-day event held at the Jim McKay Natatorium.
The Mason men's team has 206 points after day one. UNC-Wilmington has the lead with 276 points and Drexel is third with 196 points, followed by Florida Atlantic (171), Seton Hall (161), UMBC (159), American (33) and Shippensburg (19).

Nick Ashton,
Jacob Miller and
Will Rastatter along with junior
Christopher Stankiewicz combined to take second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:22.39).
Junior
Ryan Donnelly took sixth in the 200-yard IM (1:53.17), while classmate
Attila Kiss placed 10th in the event (1:53.74).
Mason finished three-four in the 400-yard medley relay. Junior
Logan Eubanks, senior
Michael Pettinichi along with sophomores
Andres Alarcon and
Drake Moretz placed third (3:21.17). The combination of sophomore
Dylan Peck, Ashton, Donnelly and Stankiewicz placed fourth (3:21.91).
In the 50-yard freestyle, Stankiewicz finished 11th (21.15) and Rastatter was 12th (21.16).
Freshman
Colin Graves placed third in the one-meter dive with a score of 269.80, while junior
Joe Amato was sixth with a score of 221.90.
On the women's side, Mason is in fourth place with 128 points after the first day of competition. Drexel has the lead with 233 points, UNCW is second (232) and Florida Atlantic is third (204). Seton Hall is in fifth place (124.5), followed by American (118.5), UMBC (98), Richmond (96) and Shippensburg (6).
Senior
Brittany Murphy swam to a sixth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (23.76), with classmate
Marla Albanese placing ninth (23.95).
Freshman
Megan Cummins was seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.15). Junior
Hannah Ikenberry placed 12th (5:04.19) and freshman
Sophie McKinley was 13th (5:04.88) in the event.
Albanese and Murphy, along with junior
Rachel Chalsma and sophomore
Shannon Glesing combined for a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:35.52).
Senior
Theresa Cotter, Murphy, Albanese and Glesing were ninth in the 400-yard medley relay (3:52.31).
Sophomore
Marina Toone placed third in the three-meter dive with a score of 241.45, while classmate
Alyx Bridis was eighth with a score of 187.80.
The second day of competition is Friday, with the prelims scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., diving at 12 p.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
