FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host the annual Patriot Invitational, welcoming eight teams for the meet beginning on Thursday, Nov. 15 and running through Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Jim McKay Natatorium.
 
Mason will compete against American, Drexel, Florida Atlantic, Richmond, Seton Hall, Shippensburg, UMBC and UNCW.
 
Last season, the Patriots men's team earned a third-place finish, while the women's team placed fifth.
 
Drexel won the 2017 Patriot Invitational on the men's side with 779 points, UNCW was second with 749.5 points and Mason was third with 658.5 points.  Seton Hall (565), UMBC (501), Florida Atlantic (369), American (120) and Shippensburg (59) rounded out the nine-team field.
 
The Mason women's team finished the 2017 Patriot Invitational with 396.5 points.  UNCW won the meet with 850 points, Drexel was second with 756.5 points and Florida Atlantic finished third with 564 points, followed by Seton Hall (453), Mason (396.5), Richmond (353), UMBC (261), American (232) and Shippensburg (7).
 
The Patriots last competed in the A-10 Classic held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
 
The Mason women's team went 4-0 with wins over La Salle, Saint Louis, St. Bonaventure and defending A-10 Champion Duquesne.
 
The men's team went 3-0 to move to 5-0 overall this season.  The Patriots downed La Salle, Saint Louis and St. Bonaventure.
 
Both the Mason men's and women's teams claimed the Patriot Invitational title in 2014 and 2015.
