GENEVA, Ohio – The George Mason women's and men's swimming and diving team posted a combined record of 7-0 at the A-10 Classic on Saturday and Sunday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
The Mason women's team went 4-0 to improve to 6-1 in dual action this season.
The Patriots defeated defending Atlantic 10 Champion Duquesne 179.5-171.5, La Salle 203-142, Saint Louis 206-144 and St. Bonaventure 181-164 in the two-day meet.
The Mason men's team went 3-0 to move to 5-0 overall this season. The Patriots downed La Salle 187-166, Saint Louis 195-156 and St. Bonaventure 229-123.
On the women's side, the Patriots won four of the six events on day two.
Mason freshman
Megan Cummins took first place in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:32.19), while sophomore
Autumn Boxley placed seventh (18:21.57).
Senior
Theresa Cotter claimed the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.99), winning by nearly three seconds. Junior
Hannah Ikenberry finished fifth in the event (2:09.39).
The Patriots finished one-two in the 100-yard freestyle, with senior
Brittany Murphy first (53.28) and classmate
Marla Albanese second (53.40).
Sophomore
Shannon Glesing was fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.37). Freshman
Annie McNenny placed sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.13).
The combination of junior
Rachel Chalsma, freshman
Chloe Fite, Albanese and Murphy won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:35.61).
On the men's side, junior
Attila Kiss won gold in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:26.27), while freshman
Timothy McKinley was seventh (17:17.59).
Junior
Ryan Donnelly swam to a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (1:49.88)
In the 100-yard freestyle, sophomore
Drake Moretz placed fourth (46.92) and freshman
Nick Ashton was fifth (46.97).
The Patriots took two of the top three spots in the 200-yard breaststroke. Senior
Michael Pettinichi won the event (2:05.90) and junior
Christopher Stankiewicz touched the wall third (2:08.39)
Sophomore
Andres Alarcon was second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.86), while sophomore
Dylan Peck placed sixth in the event (1:55.62).
Mason is back in action Nov. 15-17, hosting the Patriot Invitational at the Jim McKay Natatorium in Fairfax.
