It was a cool crisp fall day for the more than 100 golfers that took part in the 43rd Annual Patriot Club Golf Outing sponsored by Siemens Building Technologies held Monday at the Country Club of Fairfax.
The event raised more than $27,000 in support of scholarships, facilities and specific sports needs to provide the Mason student-athletes with the opportunity for academic and athletic success.
Director of Athletics
Brad Edwards welcomed everyone and thanked Siemens, the title sponsor for this event for more than a decade, and the Country Club of Fairfax for their support.
He welcomed the golfers and spoke briefly about why everyone's support is so critical not only to the athletic department but to the university.
"Our mission is to support the research mission at George Mason University and growing the prosperity and quality of life in Northern Virginia," said Edwards.
"We produce leaders and educate young people. We provide safe, affordable, convenient and exciting entertainment for our students and that's a meaningful part of their student life experience. We also market our institution how only sports can and that is critical because students are going to come to Mason from all parts of the country and internationally and most will eventually work in the Northern Virginia area."
A banquet and awards ceremony for all the golfers and sponsors followed the competition on the course. Men's basketball coach
Dave Paulsen addressed the group and spoke about the team's expectations heading into the 2018-19 season.
The day was capped off with the announcement and prizes awarded to the top three foursomes in the four-person scramble format. Individual prizes were awarded for closest to the pin and the longest drive.
