RICHMOND, Va. – The George Mason women's and men's swimming and diving teams will face Atlantic 10 opponents for the first time this season, competing against Davidson, Duquesne and Richmond in the fifth annual Richmond Duals on Friday and Saturday in Richmond, Va.
The meet will be held at SwimRVA, with swimming events beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday and 10:15 a.m. on Saturday. Diving events will be held in the Robins Center Natatorium beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and 10:15 a.m. on Saturday.
The Mason women's team will face Richmond on Friday and then take on the winner of Davidson/Duquesne on Saturday.Â
On the men's side, Mason and Davidson will compete in a single dual meet over both days.
Last season at the Richmond Duals, the Mason men's team defeated Davidson, 253-151, while the women's team fell to Richmond, 170.5-123.5, on day one earned a 170.5-128.5 win over Davidson on day two.
Last weekend, the Patriots swept Delaware with the men's team winning 12 events to defeat the Blue Hens 188-110, while the women's team won 10 events to earn a 153-147 victory.
Senior
Brittany Murphy won the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. Senior
Theresa Cotter won the 200-yard backstroke and finished second in the 100-yard backstroke.
Freshman
Laura Hodge took the top spot in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle, while classmate
Sophie McKinley won the 400-yard IM.
Sophomore
Marina Toone earned the top spot in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events.
On the men's side against Delaware, sophomore
Andres Alarcon won the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly. Sophomore
Christopher Stankiewicz touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Junior
Attila Kiss won three events, finishing first in the 1000-yard and 500-yard freestyle events and the 400-yard IM.
