FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University women's tennis student-athletes
Sydney Green and
Brianna Gibbs will lead the Green & Gold at the ITA Fall Regional this weekend in Lynchburg, Va.
Green & Gibbs will compete as a doubles tandem, while Green also will suit up against some of the top talent in the area during the championship singles flight.
It marks the first berth in the prestigious ITA Regional for both Gibbs and Green. In addition, freshmen
Jackie Nannery and
Hannah Harrod's strong rankings earned them a spot in the doubles portion of the event.
Green & Gibbs open competition Friday at 2 p.m. vs. Penn State's pairing of Gabby O'Gorman and Chelsea Sawyer. With a victory, the Patriots would move on to face the tournament's No. 1 seeded tandem of Eva Alexandrova and Millie Stretton from Maryland.
In singles play, Green begins her draw against No. 15 seed Nika Kozar of Virginia Tech. With a win, she would move on to play Maryland's Katsiaryna Yemelyanenka.
Green is a perfect 6-0 in singles this fall. She went 4-0 at the Loyola Fed Cup Sept. 28-30, then proceeded to win both of her dual matches during a successful weekend for the Patriots in Baltimore Oct. 6-7.
As a doubles pairing, Green and Gibbs also are off to an excellent start this autumn. They have compiled a 4-1 overall record, including a 3-1 mark in tournament play.
Nannery and Harrod compete against the Navy duo of Wreder and Hodge Friday at 2 p.m.
