Franklin & Marshall Open Final Brackets

LANCASTER, Pa. – George Mason redshirt junior Tejon Anthony placed second at 149 pounds, while redshirt senior Ibrahim Bunduka placed fourth at 125 pounds at the Franklin & Marshall Open on Saturday in Lancaster, Pa.

Anthony recorded five straight victories to advance to the championship match at 149 pounds, including a 14-5 major decision over Andrew Mauriello (Drexel) in his opening bout.  Anthony registered a 3-2 decision against Mason Wallace (Unattached), an 11-7 decision over Alex Harnsberger (Sacred Heart), an 11-5 decision over Zach Barnes (Unattached) and then a 9-4 decision against John Locksmith (Navy) in the semifinals.

"He had the biggest bracket and he was the first match of the day and one of the last matches of the day," Mason head coach Frank Beasley said of Anthony's road to the championship match.  "He was poised, focused and did a great job attacking throughout the day.  He feels more comfortable every time he competes at the newer weight of 149 pounds."

Bunduka finished the tournament with a 3-0 record at 125 pounds, recording a 6-1 decision over Joey Thomas (West Virginia), a 15-7 major decision against Mike Macklin (Bucknell) and a 4-3 decision over Ryan Hetrick (Unattached).

Bunduka has placed in the top eight in two straight tournaments, including an eighth-place finish at the Southern Scuffle Jan. 1-2.

"I thought Ibrahim wrestled with a purpose and went out and scored a lot of points," Beasley said.  "He ended the day 3-0 and we took a lot of positives out of the way he wrestled and the way he competed.  It's always good when you can wrestle well and win and he did that today.  I think he's realizing more and more how good he is and that's exciting."

Mason redshirt junior Matthew Voss posted four wins at 285 pounds, with two of the victories by fall.

"It's great to see him getting falls," said Beasley.  "He scores big points when he wrestles at a high pace and he looks for opportunities to put the match away.  He did a nice job picking up a couple of pins today."

"The thing I saw from all three of those guys, Matt, Ibrahim and Tejon, they all went out there looking to get to attacks and score points," Beasley added.  "That's a style that we are going to wrestle at George Mason.  An intense, physical style is something we are going to see more of over time."

The Patriots are back in action on Friday, Jan. 12, hosting Davidson at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Fairfax, Va.
