TEAM SCORES
LYNCHBURG, Va. – The George Mason men's swimming and diving team defeated VMI 277-72, while the Mason women's swimming and diving team posted a 270-54 win over VMI and fell 261-87 to Liberty in a two-day tri-meet at the Liberty Natatorium in Lynchburg, Va.
On the men's side, the Patriots (8-1, 4-0 A-10) won nine events for the second straight day.
The combination of seniors
Alec Morin and
Matthew Lynch along with sophomores
Christopher Stankiewicz and
Ryan Donnelly won the 400-yard medley relay (3:23.57). Lynch also took the top spot in the 400-yard IM (4:06.03).
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, senior
Steven Craig took the top spot on the podium (9:39.58), while sophomore
Attila Kiss finished second in the event (9:48.63).
The Patriots swept the top three spots in the 100-yard freestyle. Freshman
Drake Moretz recorded a first place finish (46.48), classmate
Bradley Downs was second (47.60) and Donnelly placed third (47.80). Moretz also won the 100-yard butterfly (50.50).
Sophomore
Logan Eubanks won the 200-yard backstroke (1:51.84), while junior
Michael Pettinichi finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:05.87).
Mason sophomore Kimani Maina along with Morin, Moretz and Donnelly posted a first place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:09.01).
Sophomore
Gerald Hodges, Jr. won the one-meter springboard with a score of 288.22.
On the women's side, the Patriots (6-6, 2-4 A-10) won two individual events.
Senior
Amy Tansill swam to a first place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.65).Â
Freshman
Marina Toone won the one-meter diving event with a score of 264.45, while classmate
Alyx Bridis placed second (209.40).
The combination of seniors
Dorothy Reilly and
Allison Barahona along with juniors
Theresa Cotter and
Marla Albanese finished third in the 400-yard medley relay (3:57.68). Reilly placed third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.68) and sophomore
Hannah Ikenberry was fourth in the event (2:08.89).
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, freshman
Autumn Boxley recorded a second place finish (11:03.36).
The Patriots are back in action at the Atlantic 10 Championships Feb. 14-17 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
