FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete in their final home meet of the season, hosting American University, Army West Point and Boston University in a quad-meet on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 12 p.m. at the Jim McKay Natatorium in Fairfax, Va.
The Patriots are competing for the first time since the 2017 AT&T Winter Nationals held Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.Â
Mason sophomore
Ryan Donnelly placed 16th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:47.57, posting the second-fastest time in the event in the Atlantic 10 Conference this season. He also placed 35th in the 100-yard backstroke (50.78).
Sophomore
Attila Kiss placed 36th in the 500-yard freestyle on day one of the Winter Nationals, while classmate
Christopher Stankiewicz was 31st in the 100-yard breaststroke with a career-best time of 56.03.
The Patriots last swam at home in the annual Patriot Invitational Nov. 16-18, with the men's team posting a third place finish with 658.5 points while the women's team finished fifth in the three-day event with 396.5 points.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
American University was swept in a home meet last weekend, falling to Georgetown and George Washington. At the Patriot Invitational Nov. 16-18, the Eagles men's team finished seventh with 120 points and the women's team placed eighth with 232 points.
The Army West Point men's team (5-2, 2-1 Patriot League) won 14 events and defeated Bucknell 223.5-73.5 and Boston College 231-66 last Saturday. The Cadets women's team (3-4, 1-2 Patriot League) earned a 170-130 win over Bucknell and a 221-79 victory over Boston College.
Boston University's men's team (4-2, 3-0 Patriot League) defeated Colgate 206-63, while the women's team (2-5, 1-2 Patriot League) registered a 182-99 win over Colgate on Jan. 13 in Boston, Mass. The Terriers swept nine events against the Raiders (100 back, 100 breast, 200 free, 400 IM, 200 fly, 200 back, 500 free, 200 breast and the 200 free relay).
