LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The George Mason wrestling team dropped its first Eastern Wrestling League road dual of the season on Saturday with a 36-6 setback against No. 21 Rider at Alumni Gym in Lawrenceville, N.J.
Mason (3-6, 0-2 EWL) redshirt senior
Ibrahim Bunduka (17-7) won the first bout of the match with a 4-3 decision over No. 20 J.R. Wert at 125 pounds.
Bunduka scored with a takedown with five seconds to go in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. After Wert tied the score 2-2, Bunduka registered a takedown with just 25 seconds left to earn his team-leading 17th victory of the season.
Rider (7-2, 1-0 EWL) picked up wins in the next eight matches, including two falls, a technical fall and two victories in overtime.
In the final match, Mason redshirt junior
Matthew Voss ended the night for the Patriots on a high note with a 4-1 decision over Broncs senior Mauro Correnti at 285 pounds. Voss won both of his matches over the weekend and is second on the team with 16 victories on the season.
The Patriots are back in action with a pair of Eastern Wrestling League home duals next weekend, hosting Lock Haven on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 12 p.m. and Clarion on Sunday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Fairfax, Va.
