Mason Softball Announces Eight New Members To 2018 Roster

FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University softball officially announces the new-commer class of eight student-athletes to the roster for the 2018 campaign.
 
The group includes incoming freshmen Haellie Gordon (Salem, Va.), Marissa Butts (Harrisburg, Pa.), Kate Owsley (Waxhaw, N.C.), Meghan Graham (Lebanon, N.J.), Jessica Goodwin (Warrenton, Va.), Courteney Harper (Winchester, Va.), Hannah Rosenfeld (Oakland, Calif) as well as transfer Adriana Erickson (Round Hill, Va. - Previous school: James Madison).
 
Erickson redshirted her freshman year at James Madison, so will have four years of eligibility for the Patriots.
 
"We have a talented group of young ladies coming in," head coach Joe Verbanic said. "We're looking forward to seeing them in live action and they'll all be pushing for playing time and starting opportunities."

Haellie Gordon | 6-0 | #2 | Fr. | P/IF | Salem, Va.
Earned four letters at Salem High School... Four-Time All-Conference pitcher... All-Timesland At-Large (2017)... All-Region Honorable Mention (2017).
 
Coach Verbanic on Gordon: "The ball has a special electricity coming out of Haellie's hand. We're excited to see her against our opponents since her upside is tremendous and she'll be a nice addition to our pitching staff."

Marissa Butts | 5-1 | #8 | Fr. | SS | Harrisburg, Pa.
Earned four letters at Central Dauphin East High School... First-Team 6A Pennsylvania All-State Shortstop (2017), First-Team 4A Pennsylvania Shortstop (2015)... Second-Team 4A Pennsylvania Shortstop (2016)... Three-time First-Team Mid-Penn Keystone Conference Shortstop (2015-17)... Two-time First-Team Pennsylvania Big Fifteen All-Star Shortstop... Central Dauphin East High School Female Athlete of the Year (2017)...Two-year team captain (2016-17).
 
Coach Verbanic on Butts: "Marissa gives us depth in the middle infield. I like her athleticism and is a tough kid out there who swings the bat well."

Kate Owsley | 5-7 | #20 | Fr. | P | Waxhaw, N.C.
Earned four letters at Cuthbertson High School... Two-Time All-State selection (2014, 2017)... Two-Time All-Conference selection (2016-17)... All-County First-Team selection (2014)... Two-Time All-District selection (2014, 2016)... Union County High School Newcomer of the Year (2014)... Cuthbertson High School Most Valuable Player (2017)... Holds single-season and All-Time record for strikeouts at Cuthbertson High School.
 
Coach Verbanic on Owsley: "Kate is going to bring depth to our pitching staff. I'm pleased with her work ethic and I see her getting lots of opportunities to help the team from the circle."
 
Meghan Graham | 5-9 | #12 | Fr. | OF | Lebanon, N.J.
Earned four letters at North Hunterdon High School... Named team captain senior year... Academically was a member of North Hunterdon's National Honor Society and received an academic achievement award.
 
Coach Verbanic on Graham: "Meghan is a talented freshman that's a left-handed swinger and a strong offensive player. She's definitely going to push people for playing time."
 
Jessica Goodwin | 5-6 | #22 | Fr. | Utility | Warrenton, Va.
Earned four varsity letters at Fauquier High School... Three-time First-Team All-Conference selection (2014, 2016-17)... Two-time First-Team All-Region selection (2014, 2016)... First-Team All-State (2016)... First Team All-State Honorable Mention (2014)... Team Captain (2017).
 
Coach Verbanic on Goodwin: "Jessica is a multi-skilled, talented freshman. She'll get opportunities to contribute because of her versatility and skill level."

Courteney Harper | 4-11 | #27 | Fr. | SS/2B | Winchester, Va.
Earned four letters at James Wood High School... Four-Time All-Conference First-Team selection... Three-Time All-Region Second-Team Selection (2015-17)... Team captain... Academically was awarded All-Academic honors four times (2014-17).
 
Coach Verbanic on Harper: "Courteney handles the bat well and has good versatility. She's done everything she's been asked so far and we like what she brings to the table."

Hannah Rosenfeld | 5-9 | #31 | Fr. | OF | Oakland, Calif.
Earned four letters at Bishop O'Dowd High School... Two-Time California-North Coast Section State Champion (2015-16)... Prep2Prep NCS First-Team selection (2017)... Two-Time Prep2Prep Second-Team selection (2015-16)... Three-Time All-Conference selection (2015-17)... All-Conference Second-Team selection (2014)... Team captain (2017).
 
Coach Verbanic on Rosenfeld: "Hannah is a big, strong, powerful player. We view her as a difference maker who can play anywhere in the outfield and runs the bases well."

Adriana Erickson | 5-9 | #28 | R-Fr. | 1B/3B | Round Hill, Va./James Madison
Redshirted 2017 season at James Madison...Earned four letters at Woodgrove High School... Two-Time Virginia 4A State Champion (2014, 2016)... Two-Time Virginia 4A State Runner-Up (2013, 2015)... Three-Time First-Team All-State first baseman (2014-16)... Three-Time First-Team All-Region (2014-16)... Three time First-Team 4A All-Conference (2014-16)... Second-Team All-Conference (2013)... Team Captain (2016)... Virginia High School Player of the year (2016)... Virginia High School Athlete of the year (2016).
 
Coach Verbanic on Erickson: "The first word I think of when I think of Adriana is power. If she does what we think she will will, she'll be a force in the middle of our lineup for the next four years."
