FAIRFAX, Va. – When the NCAA tennis season concludes in the spring, the George Mason University women's team is just getting started.
Mason's returning student-athletes and incoming freshmen have been suiting up across the United States this summer to sharpen technique, gain valuable competitive experience and make preparations for the 2017-18 campaign in Fairfax.
In all, Mason student-athletes have participated in tournaments covering 16 U.S. states over the past few months.
"Summer is a critical time for our athletes," head coach
Stephen Curtis said. "I'm happy with how our players have planned out their offseason schedules and I look forward to seeing the hard work pay off this fall."

RETURNING PLAYERS
Sydney Green
Mason's rising junior made stops throughout the Midwest over the summer. She reached the semifinals of her flight in a tournament at Notre Dame, won two rounds in an event at Michigan State and made it to the semifinals of the first flight consolation at Western Michigan. She will be a key member of the Mason lineup in 2017-18.
Rachel Lee
Mason's impact freshman from the 2016-17 campaign also has been busy during the summer months. She also participated in the event in South Bend and reached the finals of her flight at Notre Dame. She made the quarters of her consolation flight at Wake Forest and would've continued, but had to retire from the event in Winston-Salem due to impending travel. She wrapped up her summer at an event at Palm Beach Atlantic in Florida. In 2017-18, Lee will be looked upon to play a major role for the Patriots.
Liz Lowe
Competing at a WTA sanctioned event - the Atlanta Open - in her hometown, rising sophomore
Liz Lowe reached the final of the tournament. Lowe played No. 6 singles for much of her freshman season and will look to continue to make an impact this season.
Lauren Dupuis
Dupuis, a transfer from Louisiana Lafayette that sat out the 2016-17 season, also competed with Lowe at the Atlanta Open. She reached the semifinals in the Peach State.
Sutherlyn Brinn
Brinn also competed during the summer and made a pilgrimage to the Piedmont Triad to participate in a tournament at Elon University. She will be a sophomore in 2017-18.
INCOMING FRESHMEN
Hannah Cianciola
The Canfield, Ohio, product gained valuable experience throughout the summer. She won the back draw of a strong tournament at Purdue University and participated in an ITA event at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania.
Christine McCarthy
Golden State native
Christine McCarthy stayed close to home while participating in a tournament at UC Davis. In a unique event that featured stages rather than rounds, McCarthy earned some victories that will serve as good preparation for her freshman season for the Green & Gold.
Kayleigh Hahn
Hahn also was active on the ICA circuit while suiting up for a tournament at George Gwinnett College. She performed well in the tournament, winning three matches in a row en route to a berth in the consolation final. The Dacula, Ga., product was a three-time all-region and two-time all-county selection in singles during her Georgia high school career.
Brianna Gibbs
New Jersey native
Brianna Gibbs traveled to New Brunswick for a tournament at Rutgers University. During her high school career, she was ranked as top-5 player in New Jersey, top-20 in the USTA East and top-180 nationally.
Hannah Yang
Yang, a product of Springfield, Va., made the short trek to Falls Church to compete at a WTA sanctioned event in Falls Church. She was a three-time district champion in Northern Virginia.
Anna Ugne Radzeviciute
The Lithuania native also suited up in the Falls Church WTA event. She attended high school at Montgomery County in Maryland and was ranked in the top-100 of the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Mason kicks off the 2017-18 campaign Sept. 16-17 at the Mary Washington Invitational in Fredericksburg.
