FAIRFAX, Va. – For the third straight year, the George Mason women's lacrosse team has received national honors for team and individual success in the classroom.
The Patriots were recognized as an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad. Mason, which also received the honor each of the last two years, was one of 300 institutions across NCAA Division I, II and III and NAIA to earn the honor.
To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year. Mason finished the 2016-17 school year with a team GPA of 3.48.
In addition, six members of the team were named to the IWLCA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll –
Taylor Altomare,
Kira Greer,
Melissa Lobaccaro,
Brooke Lorber,
Lindsey Tangeman and
Hannah Warpinski. This is the second straight year to be named to the Honor Roll for Altomare, Lobaccaro and Lorber (all three graduated in May). To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
Altomare, a native of Wolfsville, Md., graduated in May with her degree in health administration. Greer, a rising senior from Flemington, N.J., is a psychology major and a two-time recipient of George Mason's Peter N. Stearns Provost Scholar Athlete award.
Lobaccaro, from Commack, N.Y., and Lorber, a native of Bel Air, Md., received the Provost Scholar Athlete award three times while they were enrolled at Mason. Both graduated in May, with Lobaccaro completing a degree in civil engineering while Lorber earned her marketing degree.
Tangeman and Warpinski, rising seniors, have also been named Provost Scholar Athletes each of the last two years. Tangeman is a communication major from Winter Park, Fla., and Warpinski is a kinesiology major from Harwood, Md.
