FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason University women's rowing junior
Nicole Van Oort has been named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, the league office announced Thursday.
The award adds to Van Oort's growing honor roll following an outstanding year in the water as well as the classroom. She also was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 Team while earned another annual distinction as a George Mason Provost Scholar.
A three-time Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, Van Oort carries a 4.0 GPA while majoring in mathematics.
She has served as the important stroke position in Mason's Second Varsity 8+ Boat in 2016-17, leading Mason to a second place finish at the Occoquan Sprints and a top-20 finish at the Head of the Charles. She led the Patriots to a second place showing in the A-10 portion of the Mason Invite in April and has helped the Patriots win the Atlantic 10 Petite Final in both 2016 and 2017. She culminated her season in podium fashion at the Dad Vail Regatta, teaming with
Emily Holt in the Varsity Pair series to capture the bronze medal. It marked just the seventh Dad Vail medal in George Mason University rowing history.
