FAIRFAX, Va. – A month after being tabbed as one of the best pitchers in her conference, George Mason's
Marina Vitalich has been named one of the best players in the state.
The right-hander was named to the 2017 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State University Division Softball First Team on Friday in a vote of sports information directors throughout the state. This comes on the heels of Vitalich earning Co-Pitcher of the Year honors from the Atlantic 10 Conference in May.
A sophomore from San Pedro, Calif., Vitalich led the A-10 with an ERA of 1.87. She also ranked second in strikeouts (197) and topped the league in strikeouts looking (67). Her 195 innings pitched were fourth-most in the conference. She finished the season with a 14-13 record and opponents hitting just .238 off of her.
Vitalich was named to the VaSID All-State Second Team in 2016.
