FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason baseball team wraps up its two-game season series against James Madison, hosting the Dukes for the final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday at Spuhler Field with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
Mason (22-27, 10-8 A-10) dropped both games of a doubleheader to George Washington on Sunday, falling 4-1 in game one and 12-5 in the nightcap as the Colonials completed a three-game sweep.
In game one, sophomore
Zach Mort (3-5) allowed four runs on seven hits over 6.0 innings and suffered the loss. Senior
Brock Hunter allowed just two hits over three scoreless innings in relief.
In game two, sophomore
Brian Marconi (5-5) allowed six runs on seven hits over 3.1 innings and took the loss. Senior
Tyler Kardas and freshman
Jakob Ryan combined to toss three scoreless innings for the Patriots.
Sophomore
Brady Acker went 4-for-5 on the day with a home run, triple and two singles. Junior
Trevor Kelly was a combined 3-for-9 and drove in two runs in game two, while classmate
Garett Driscoll hit his second home run of the season for Mason.
Freshman
Logan Driscoll leads the team with a .326 average and is third in RBI (30) and fourth in hits (43). Junior
Tyler Nelin is hitting .304 and leads the team in hits (55), home runs (8) and doubles (14).
Kelly is batting .294 and leads the team in RBI (46) and is tied for second on the team in hits (47) and tied for second in home runs (5). Junior
Michael Smith has a .253 average, leads the team in runs scored (40) and is third on the team in hits (45) and doubles (10).
The Patriots have hit a home run in seven of their last 10 games. Mason has had 12 players hit at least one home run this season.
Mason is 52-63 in the all-time series against James Madison. The Patriots defeated the Dukes 6-5 on April 5 at Veterans Memorial Park in Harrisonburg, Va. Sophomore
Greg Popatak II went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, while Acker reached base four times with a home run and three walks in the game.
JAMES MADISON SCOUTING REPORT:
The Dukes are 21-22 overall and 5-13 against Colonial Athletic Association opponents. James Madison is 14-9 at home and 5-12 on the road this season.
After losing seven straight games from April 14 through April 23, the Dukes have won three of their last four contests. James Madison blanked Longwood 16-0 on April 26 before winning two of three at home against Towson this past weekend.
Junior Kyle McPherson has a .335 average and leads the team in hits (55) and is tied for third in home runs (7). Junior Adam Sisk is batting .325 and leads the team in runs scored (51) and is second in hits (52). Senior Brett Johnson leads the Dukes in home runs (10).
