PRINCETON, N.J. – Continued dominance in the relays and another strong performance in the women's discus boosted the George Mason men's and women's track and field teams over the weekend.
The Patriots captured three gold medals at the 141st IC4A and 34th ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Princeton University. Both Mason's men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams finished first and
Michelle Wallerstedt notched her eighth victory of the season in the discus.
As a team, the women finished fourth out of 50 teams with 37 points, just one point behind Bucknell. Cornell claimed the women's team title. On the men's side, the Patriots finished ninth out of 49 teams. LIU Brooklyn won the men's championship.

Sarah Moore won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:40.48 as the Patriots repeated as champs in the event. They finished more than two seconds faster than Maryland-Eastern Shore (3:42.58).
The men also captured the 4x400 crown, also adding to their collection of medals after winning the A-10 championship in the event the week before. Junior

Rico Gomez posted a time of 3:09.06 – nearly three seconds faster than Hampton (3:12.02).
Wallerstedt once again proved victorious in the discus with a winning toss of 53.16 meters (174 feet, 5 inches). The redshirt senior, who won her second A-10 championship last week, has won eight of the nine discus competitions she has participated in this season.

Shelby Garnand taking silver in the pole vault (3.94 meters), Freeman with a bronze in the 200-meter dash (21.29) and the men's 4x100-meter relay team of senior

???????The Patriots now wait for the announcement of qualifiers for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Championship. The top 48 in each event (and the top 24 relays) qualify for the East Preliminary, which will be held on May 25-27 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. The top 12 finishers in each event from the NCAA Division I East and West Preliminary Championships advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on June 7-10 at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore.
