FAIRFAX, Va. – Riding the momentum from its first tournament championship in four years, the George Mason men's golf team looks to end its season on a strong note.
The Patriots open the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Golf Championship on Friday at the Villas of Grand Cypress in Orlando, Fla. The three-day, 54-hole tournament runs through Sunday. Mason tees off at 8:15 a.m. on the New Course (Par 72, 6,794 yards).
Mason finished seventh out of 11 teams at last year's A-10 Championships. Junior
Eric Edwards tied for third to earn all-conference honors. VCU enters this year's tournament as the three-defending champ.
On Sunday, the Patriots captured the team title at the Navy Spring Invitational on Sunday in Annapolis, Md., for their first team title since 2013. They won the 36-hole tournament at Navy by six strokes over St. John's. Senior
Kyle Hart won medalist honors with an even-par 142 (73-69) for the second individual tournament championship of his career. Junior
Ellis Messian finished in the top 10 for the first time this season with a 5-over 147 (74-73) to tie for eighth. Junior
Eric Edwards tied for 11th with a 6-over 148 (76-72).
The Patriots have finished third or higher in four tournaments this season, including each of their last three (third at Mission Inn Spring Spectacular, third at Wofford Invitational, first at Navy Spring Invitational).
