FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University's softball team will close its non-conference schedule at home Wednesday, against cross-town rival Georgetown.

Mason got back to winning ways this past weekend by sweeping the home series against St. Bonaventure. Due to a rain halt, most of the series had to be played on Sunday, when the Patriots grabbed 7-1, 4-2, and 8-0 wins, respectively.

The Patriots are now tied for third in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings with an 11-6 conference record, the most league wins in head coach Joe Verbanic's nearly-13 seasons as head of the program.

Freshman pitcher Bekah Ansbro pitched a complete game two-hitter in the finale against the Bonnies, which Mason claimed in only five innings.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Georgetown's recent form has been telling enough about the team's season – the Hoyas are on a nine-game losing streak, which includes going a combined 0-5 in the home series against Big East opponents DePaul and Villanova. The negative streak has caused Georgetown to plummet in the conference standings, where it now sits in last place with a 4-10 record. The team's last victory came on April 8 in a Big East series opener at Seton Hall, 6-1.

The Hoyas have gathered just as many wins in true road contests as they have at home, but nevertheless go into Wednesday – a non-conference finale for them as well – with an unimpressive 3-14 away record.

Mallory Belknap has played in all of Georgetown's 41 games this season and leads the Hoyas in batting average (.392) and hits (56). Noelle Holiday (.302 batting), who has played in 39 games, has team-best 24 RBI, six home runs, 60 total base and .517 slugging percentage.

From the three pitchers who have occupied the circle for Georgetown this season, Anna Brooks Pacha has the lowest ERA – 4.01. Pacha has been credited with eight of the Hoyas' 11 victories in 2017. She has pitched 11 complete games for a total of 132.2 innings.
