Twenty-eight student-athletes were recently recognized as Peter N. Stearns Provost Scholar Athletes.

The George Mason Provost Scholar Athletes were honored at a reception recently on campus and recognized at a men's basketball game for their outstanding academic achievements. George Mason Provost Emeritus Dr. Peter Stearns, who created the Provost Scholar Athlete Award in 2009, congratulated this year's recipients at a reception.

In its ninth year, the award recognizes the student-athletes who have earned at least 38 credit hours at Mason and have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or better.

Thirteen sports were represented along with the cheerleading and dance teams. There were 20 student-athletes who have received the award before. Eight have been named Provost Scholar Athletes three times – Lynne Eisenberg (women's track), Jessie Greenslade (women's volleyball),  Youssef Khalafallah (men's tennis), Melissa Lobaccaro (lacrosse), Brooke Lorber (lacrosse), Erin Schulte (swimming/diving) and Tyler Zombro (baseball).
