FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University rowing team hits the waters in Fairfax Station for the first time this spring when the Patriots race in the Occoquan Sprints Sunday.
 
Mason will race its Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ boats during a day of opportunity in which the team can build confidence and momentum heading into the meat of its spring schedule.
 
The Varsity 8+ boat will match up with Loyola (Md.), William & Mary and a number of other programs in the preliminary heat at 10:35 a.m. The top finishers from each heat will advance to the afternoon's final at either 1:04 p.m. or 1:18 p.m.
 
The Second Varsity 8+ will race in a final only, against George Washington at 1:37 p.m.
 
Mason's Varsity 4+ will race in its preliminary at 10:14 a.m. and compete in a final at either 12:43 or 12:50 p.m.
 
"We've had a good week of practice and training. It's not a heads up race, so our goal is to execute our race plan with our Varisty 8 boat," head coach Ted Nagorsen said. "For the second Varsity 8, they've made some good changes in the boat and have narrowed the margin with our Varsity 8 boat. The Varsity 4 is very young, so this is a nice opportunity for those student-athletes to continue to build experience in a competitive race format."

Parking
FREE for all tow vehicles and vehicles with 10+ people, $5 for 7-8-9/vehicle, $10 for 3-4-5-6/vehicle and $20 for 1-2/vehicle. A Parking Crew will be directing all parking.There will be one shuttle running from the upper parking lot to the Grandstand viewing area [$2/one way]. There is a footpath to the Grandstand area, a 15-20 minute walk separate from the road/shuttle route.
 
Directions
South of Washington DC: To reach Sandy Run, take I-95 south of the Beltway, exit at Lorton Road, turn right on Lorton, turn right on Furnace Road, right again on Ox Road (Route 123), left on Hampton Road, turn left on Van Thompson and follow it to the park entrance.
