FAIRFAX, Va.
– George Mason University's softball team will welcome Towson to the George Mason Softball Complex Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader.
The doubleheader wraps up a five-game homestand for Mason. Over the weekend, the Patriots opened Atlantic 10 play with a series victory over visiting La Salle. The Patriots split a pair of contests on Saturday and then took the rubber match on Sunday with a 4-0 shutout of the Explorers.
On Sunday, sophomore starter
Marina Vitalich (5-6) pitched her second complete game of the weekend while leading the Patriots to victory. Vitalich struck out 10 batters and led a defense that didn't commit an error in the win. On the year, Vitalich sports an impressive 1.80 ERA and ranks second in the A-10 with 77 strikeouts in 77.2 innings of work.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Towson enters Wednesday's action with 10-15 record. The Tigers posted a 2-1 mark in the USC Upstate Classic, which included a win over Georgetown, and went 2-2 at the Carolina Classic in late February in Chapel Hill. Towson is coming off a 2-1 series win over Delaware March 24-25 to open their CAA slate.
Shelby Stratcher leads the team with a .344 batting average and .557 slugging percentage while Daria Edwards is the team leader in hits (27). Kendyl Scott has knocked in a team-best 17 runs on the year.
Smith-Harrington is 6-7 with a 4.09 ERA in 11 starts in 2017, while Megan Dejter has posted a 4.28 ERA and tallied 10 complete games on the year.
