COLLEGE STATION, Texas – A strong finish in the 60-meter hurdles highlighted
John Seals' final day of the heptathlon at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Seals took sixth in the 60-meter hurdles – one of three final events in the heptathlon on Saturday at the Gilliam Indoor Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M. Overall, Seals scored 5,447 points to place 14th in the seven-event heptathlon and earn Second Team All-American honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The junior from Springfield, Va., opened the day by winning his heat and placing sixth overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.22 seconds. He placed 10th in the pole vault by clearing 4.66 meters (15 feet, 3 ½ inches). In the 1,000-meter run, he took 14th with a time of 3:12.70.
Seals entered the second day in 10th place overall after his first four events on Friday.
He began his first trip to the national meet by placing 12th in the 60-meter run with a time of 7.13 seconds. He then jumped 6.97 meters (22 feet, 10 ½ inches) in the long jump to finish 14th. He set a personal best in the shot put with a heave of 12.35 meters (40 feet, 6 ¼ inches) for 15th. In the last event of the day, Seals cleared 2.10 meters (6 feet, 10 ¾ inches) of the high jump.
