FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason junior
Ibrahim Bunduka was selected the Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Bunduka, an Alexandria, Va. native, improved to 18-3 on the season at 125 pounds after earning a 10-2 major decision over Franklin & Marshall junior Edgar Garcia on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Mayser Gym in Lancaster, Pa.
Bunduka, 31st in the NCAA Coaches Panel Rankings, scored seven points over the final two periods in the win. Five of his 18 victories this season have been by major decision.
"It's a well-deserved honor," Mason assistant coach
Mark Weader said. "He works extremely hard all the time and he's getting more consistent. We're hoping he's going to finish strong in the last two duals and the conference tournament. He deserves to be there and continues to get better."
Friday night when the Patriots face the Eagles, Bunduka will take on American University sophomore Josh Terao, who is 10th in the NCAA Coaches Panel Rankings at 125 pounds.
The Patriots have a record of 5-3 away from home this season. Mason competes in its final road dual of the campaign at American on Friday at Bender Arena in Washington, D.C. The dual is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
