FAIRFAX, Va. – Three Patriots will compete against some of the top swimmers in the United States at the 2017 AT&T Winter National Championships hosted by USA Swimming, with sophomores
Ryan Donnelly,
Attila Kiss and
Christopher Stankiewicz in action Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
Donnelly, a native of Raleigh, N.C., will compete in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke.Â
This season, Donnelly has posted two wins and five top-five finishes overall in those two events combined.Â
Donnelly took first place in the 200-yard backstroke against Delaware on Oct. 14 (1:52.48) and earned the top spot on the podium at the Richmond Duals held Oct. 20-21 (1:51.37). He posted a second place finish in the event at the A-10 Classic on Oct. 28 in Geneva, Ohio (1:52.59) and placed third at the Patriot Invitational held Nov. 16-18, posting a season-best time (1:49.11).
Kiss, from Miskolc, Hungary, will compete in the 500-yard freestyle.
Kiss has won the 500-yard freestyle two times this season, earning the top spot on the podium at the A-10 Classic (4:38.22) and the Patriot Invitational with a season-best time (4:32.44). He also placed second in the event at the Richmond Duals Oct. 20-21 (4:40.44).
Stankiewicz, a native of Fairfax Station, Va., will compete in the 100-yard breaststroke. He won the event in Mason's dual meet against Delaware on Oct. 14 (57.45) and also touched the wall first at the A-10 Classic on Oct. 28 in Geneva, Ohio with a season-best time (56.96).
The Winter Nationals open Wednesday with a relay-only session scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30 through Saturday, Dec. 2, preliminaries are scheduled for 9 a.m. and finals are slated to begin at 5 p.m. each day.
The Patriots are back in action on Jan. 20 when they host American, Army and Boston University at 12 p.m. at the Jim McKay Natatorium in Fairfax, Va.
