ANNAPOLIS, MD. – George Mason redshirt junior Tejon Anthony placed sixth in the 141-pound weight class and classmate Matthew Voss finished sixth at 285 pounds on Saturday at the 40th annual Navy Classic at the Wesley Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md.

Anthony won four matches in the consolation round to advance to the fifth-place match a 141 pounds.  He recorded three takedowns and two near fall points in a 10-5 decision in his first match, then won by fall in the first period in his second bout, scored a late takedown for a 3-2 decision in the round of eight and won a 3-1 decision in the semifinals.

"He had a tough first round opponent, but after a slow start he really got his offense going," Mason head coach Frank Beasley said.  "He picked up a big win against a national qualifier from Oregon State and did a nice job controlling the pace.  He was more aggressive when he was on his run and was one of the highlight performers of the day for us."

After a bye in the round of 32, Voss recorded a pin in the round of 16 at 285 pounds.  In the consolation bracket, he registered three takedowns in an 8-0 major decision to advance to the semifinals.  In his semifinal match, Voss wasted little time and recorded a pin in the first period to advance to the fifth-place match.

"He went out there to score points and he controlled the hand-fighting positions so he could get to his setups and make attacks," Beasley said.  "I saw a good amount of growth in that area from him."

In the 125 pound bracket, Mason redshirt senior Ibrahim Bunduka won his first two matches of the day with an 8-2 decision in the round of 32 and a 6-2 decision in the round of 16.  He won two more decisions in the consolation bracket to advance to the quarterfinals.

Mason redshirt sophomore Matthew Raines finished with a pair of victories in the tournament at 149 pounds with a 14-3 major decision in the round of 32 and an 8-4 decision in the consolation bracket.  He recorded three takedowns in each bout.

Freshman Bryce Reddington had three takedowns and scored eight near-fall points in a 16-1 technical fall in the round of 32 in the 157 pound weight class.  Redshirt junior Brendan May recorded his first victory of the season with a pin in the first period in the consolation round of eight at 165 pounds.

As a team, Mason finished in a tie for 14th place with Hofstra with 32.5 points.  Navy won the team title with 112.5 points, Purdue was second with 100.5 points and Old Dominion finished third with 98.5 points.

"It was great to see so many Mason fans at the event and we appreciate the support," said Beasley.  "Our thanks to Navy for hosting such a great tournament and we look forward to competing in the event next year."

The Patriots are back on the mat on Saturday, Dec. 2 against Bloomsburg at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Fairfax, Va.
