FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason swimming and diving teams completed the annual Patriot Invitational on senior day, with the men's team finishing third and the women's team placing fifth in the three-day event held at the Jim McKay Natatorium in Fairfax, Va.
On the men's side, Mason senior
Matthew Lynch won the 200-yard butterfly (1:50.09), while freshman
Andres Alarcon was eighth in the event (1:52.37).
The Patriots took two of the top five spots in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Sophomore
Attila Kiss made the podium in the event for the second straight year with a third place finish (15:47.39), while senior
Steven Craig placed fifth (15:56.28).
In the 200-yard backstroke, Mason sophomore
Ryan Donnelly earned bronze with a third place finish (1:49.11), with sophomore
Logan Eubanks right behind in fourth (1:50.21). Freshman
Dylan Peck placed sixth in the consolation finals (1:54.23).
Senior
Alec Morin finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (45.44). In the bonus final of the event, freshman
Bradley Downs was first (47.10) and classmate
Drake Moretz was third (47.36).
Sophomore
Christopher Stankiewicz recorded a sixth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.86), while freshman
Michael Pettinichi touched the wall first in the consolation final of the event (2:04.36).
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Morin, Moretz, Peck and Stankiewicz placed fifth (3:05.20).
Drexel won the meet on the men's side with 779 points, the University of North Carolina Wilmington was second with 749.5 points and Mason finished third with 658.5 points. Seton Hall (565), UMBC (501), Florida Atlantic (369), American (120) and Shippensburg (59) rounded out the nine-team field.
On the women's side, junior
Theresa Cotter placed eighth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.28). In the consolation final of the event, sophomore
Hannah Ikenberry swam to a first place finish (2:02.38) and senior
Dorothy Reilly was second (2:02.97).
Mason senior
Amy Tansill finished fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.35), while classmate
Allison Barahona was fifth (2:22.39).
In the 200-yard butterfly, Reilly earned a spot on the podium with a third place finish (2:01.85). Junior
Christina McLemore finished eighth in the event (2:05.79).
The combination of senior
Rachel Williams, junior
Marla Albanese, sophomore
Rachel Chalsma and Reilly placed eighth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:31.85).
The Mason women's team finished fifth in the meet with 396.5 points. UNCW won the meet with 850 points, Drexel was second with 756.5 points and Florida Atlantic placed third with 564 points, followed by Seton Hall (453), Mason (396.5), Richmond (353), UMBC (261), American (232) and Shippensburg (7).

"It's always hard to see them finish what they are doing and hopefully they have accomplished what they came here to do," Mason head coach
Peter Ward said. "We still have some swimming to do through their senior year. This class has been a terrific group and they've been a force at the collegiate level."
The Patriots are back in action Nov. 30 through Dec.2 at the Winter Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.
